John Toth, "What Does The Inner Eye See?"

I looked at the people beside me, and all at once by contrast I saw a spectacle completely unknown. It was fantastic. The unknown was the reality all around me, and no longer what was happening on the screen!

When I came out onto the Boulevard Montparnasse, it was as if I'd never seen it before, a complete transformation of reality, marvelous, totally strange, and the boulevard had the beauty of the Arabian Nights.

Everything was different, space and objects and colors and the silence, because the sense of space generates silence, bathes objects in silence.

...Alberto Giacometti (revelation at the movies), early 1900's)

DUCHAMP:  Already I didn't want to be preoccupied with visual languge...

CABANNE:  Retinal.

DUCHAMP:  Consequently, retinal. Everything was becoming conceptual,
that is, it depended on things other than the retina.

...Marcel Duchamp and Pierre Cabanne, 1966

"Anything new, anything worth doing, can't be recognized"
